Beaufort student is state chess champion

 

 

Chris Hoogenboom displays his tropy after winning the South Carolina Scholastic Chess Championship.

On Saturday, March 5, Chris Hoogenboom, a fifth grader at Riverview Charter School, represented Beaufort and The Riverview Charter School Chess Team, The Riverview Rookrays, at the State of South Carolina Scholastic Chess Champion- ships held in Columbia, S.C. Chris was undefeated in the championship and came in first place overall.

 

Additionally, Kevin Rogers of Beaufort Academy came in first place for second grade and Jack McDougal of Beaufort Academy came in first place for kindergarten.
