LIBPA GUEST SPEAKER FOR MARCH is Dick Stewart, Chief Executive Officer, 303 Associates

Mr. Stewart graduated from Beaufort High School in 1967, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Georgia Southern University and a MBA from Mercer University.  He was a school teacher prior to a 25 year career in wireless telecommunications where he formed several wireless communications businesses. Upon returning to Beaufort in 1998 he founded the real estate management company 303 Associates LLC and hospitality companies which own the Beaufort Inn and the Quality Inn in Beaufort.  303 Associates is presently developing the Beaufort Town Center which at this stage provides over 300,000 square feet of commercial space, over 250 motel/hotel rooms and is the site of the first mixed use (residential and commercial) “GOLD LEED” certified building in our area and one of only 700 nationwide.  His public service includes one term as a member of Beaufort County Council, service as Chairman of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Lowcountry Economic Network.  He currently serves on the Boards of the Chamber of Commerce, the Low Country Regional Transit Authority and the Low Country Economic Network.  Additionally, Dick and his wife Sharon have provided funding to create the Port Royal Sound Fund.


Mr. Stewart has been requested to include the following subjects in his discussion with our members.


– What are the strengths and weaknesses, from a business perspective, of form based code?

– What are the limitations of Beaufort County in regard to attracting industry and high paying jobs?

–  Your evaluation of the overall performance of the Lowcountry Economic Network.

–  Is our local public schools producing a qualified work force?

–  Where is the local economy in regard to recovery and what will the new business “normal” look like?

–  Your assessment of the City of Beaufort Redevelopment Commission and Office of Civic Investment?
