LIBPA GUEST SPEAKER FOR JANUARY: Kimberly Statler Executive Director, Lowcountry Economic Network

Ms. Statler is completing her fourth year as the Executive Director of the Lowcountry Economic Network.  The Economic Network is a public/private organization designed to provide support for business recruitment and expansion efforts in Beaufort County.  Prior to becoming the Executive Director, Ms. Statler was Executive Director of the Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation.  Her past professional experience includes being owner of an economic development consulting firm, Vice President of Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, Director of Government Relations/Legislative Liaison for the Iowa House of Representative and Legislative Aide and Campaign Manager for a U. S. Congressman.  She is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and has a Masters degree in Health Care Administration from Des Moines University.  Ms. Statler and her family are residents of Lady’s Island.  Specific subjects she has been requested to include in her discussion with our members include:


– Is a regional approach practical when attempting to attract businesses to the area?

– Business wise what is the new “normal” for Beaufort County?

– Beaufort County’s strongest and weakest selling points in regard to attracting new industry?

– In addition to the military, tourism and retirees what new areas should we be targeting?

– Will the new form based zoning have a positive or negative effect on economic development?
