LIBPA Guest Speaker for August is Sheriff P. J. Tanner

The Guest Speaker for the August meeting of the Lady’s Island Business and Professional Association is P.J. Tanner, Sheriff of Beaufort County.

Sheriff Tanner, a life long resident of Beaufort County, joined the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department in 1981.  He rose through the ranks to serve as Commander of the Southern Division of the Sheriff’s Department.  In 1995, following his services with the Sheriff’s Department, he became a member of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety where he served in a variety of assignments.  Returning to Beaufort in 1998, he was elected as Sheriff of Beaufort County and reelected in 2002 and 2006. He is presently running unopposed for a third term of office. Recently, he assumed the duties of President of the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association.  Sheriff Tanner has been requested to include the following in his discussion with our members.

– An overview of crime for Northern Beaufort County and specifically on Lady’s Island.

– Today’s role of the Sheriff’s Department in regard to illegal immigration.

– Effectiveness of the Sheriff’s Department new drug testing and DNA laboratory.

– The drug problem in Beaufort County.

– Is the downturn in the economy requiring belt tightening in the Sheriff’s Department?

The Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 8am at the Sea Island Conference Center on Sam’s point Road.  Invite your friends and neighbors. The meeting is open to the public.
