So Far…So Fun at the 55th Annual Beaufort Water Festival

By Wendy Pollitzer

The 55th Annual Beaufort Water Festival is underway, and so far…so fun!  Sheri Little and her Crew deserve a nice pat on the back for an extraordinary first weekend.

The Opening Ceremony was a hit! Fireworks and the Parris Island Marine Corps band wowed the crowd Friday night as thousands packed Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Members of the Parris Island band wandered down to Saltus later that evening and jammed with AC and the White Broncos. The performance was stellar!

Saturday, festivities continued with numerous events.  Participants enjoyed the Badminton and Bocce Tournaments as well as the popular Raft Races. Kids loved the Toadfishing Tournament, and spectators cheered on the Sailing Regatta and exciting Gatorland Ski Show.

Saturday evening, the Chuck Courtenay Band opened for Country superstar, Jake Owen who performed for another packed crowd. His first song, Yee Haw got the crowd singing and dancing quickly. Owen’s references to South Carolina and the Lowcountry impressed the audience, especially the ladies!

Sunday, the kids of Beaufort were treated to free ice cream and Vitamin Water, jump castles, face painting and more at the annual Children’s Day.  And teens enjoyed themselves at the popular Teen Dance Sunday evening.

The week’s events continued with Motown Monday, Tropical Tuesday and the infamous Talent Show on Wednesday.

Tonight is one of the festival’s signature events, the Lowcountry Supper from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. in the Waterfront Park.
Gates open 6 p.m., and Supper will be served from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by The Broke Locals, The World Famous Whistlers, followed by The Return, a Beatles Tribute Band.
Admission is $15. Shuttle service will be provided from 6 p.m.- midnight.
