Volunteers Needed for Hunting Island Oyster Reef Restoration

The SC Department of Natural Resources, SCORE, Hunting Island State Park

& Friends of Hunting Island State Park, Inc. will be restoring an oyster reef on Tuesday, May 25th from 11:30AM-1:30PM, rain or shine. Volunteers will meet at Russ Point Boat Landing (Turn right on Highway 21 just before Fripp Island bridge).

Sturdy shoes or boots (no sandals or flip-flops!!), old clothes, sun screen, & hats are recommended. SCORE will provide arm sleeves, gloves, bug spray and water.  Be prepared to get wet and muddy.

Volunteers will work with SCDNR staff to form a fire brigade line passing mesh bags of oyster shells to the site to form another oyster reef.
