Pigs are out this year and fish are in at Beaufort Academy. The annual spring fundraiser for the school has long been the popular Pig Out. But this year, organizers at the school are putting together a Fish In. It’s logical. We are a fishing town, on the coast!

The event will be held over two weekends. The kick off party will be Saturday, May 22 at the Coosaw Point Crab Shack from 7pm until midnight. Music by Groove Eclectic will entertain while Frogmore Stew is served.  Beer and Wine will also be on hand while both a live and silent auction are planned.

The Silent Auction will feature many superb items ranging in value from under $100 to over $1000. And, the Live auction, mc’d by local celebrity Terry Sweeney, will showcase 2 fantastic trips. The first is a week’s stay at a hillside villa in St. Martin, La Croisette overlooking Baie Longue (Long Bay), the beach for the rich and famous. The second is a two-night stay at Cake Bread Sellars Winery in Napa Valley. The Winery’s reputed clubs are nationally known. The winner will enjoy Cakebread’s limited production wines and a wonderful vitner dinner.

Tickets for the first weekend’s event are $35 in advance and $45 at the door. It should be a great time, so get your tickets in advance!

The second weekend of the Fish In will take place on May 29th.  The 1st Annual Cobia Tournament will begin with lines in at 6am. Cost is $150 per boat, and registration forms are online at You may also email Billy O’Herron at for more information.

The weigh-in for biggest Cobia will be at the Port Royal Landing Marina at 3pm. The Grand Prize is $1000; second place will receive $600, and third place will take home $200.

Jessica Miller, Special Events Director at Beaufort Academy is especially excited about the Fish In. “We’ve enjoyed the Pig Out for the last 5 years. This year’s event will offer a wonderful change, but still capture the casual aspect of a fun spring fundraiser,” says Miller.

Jessica and her committee have been planning since November.  “The Fish In committee has been a dedicated group, eager to bring a memorable event to the Beaufort community,” Miller exclaims.

And a fun event it shall be.  Cobia are running, so fisherman get ready for an exciting day in the river. And for those of you who prefer to stay on land, you should enjoy a relaxing party at Coosaw Point, with all the fixin’s from Frogmore!
