75 female cyclists tear through downtown Beaufort

Over 120 males representing all 15 national professional cycling teams participated

The 4th Annual Beaufort Memorial Hospital Cycling Classic tore through the streets of Downtown Beaufort Tuesday evening as thousands of spectators watched with excitement. The crowd applauded the American Criterium racers up close as they biked at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Criterium racing, a unique form of cycling that stresses high-speed racing amidst an urban atmosphere, combines the most exciting elements of popular sports with the large-scale appeal of a downtown festival atmosphere, making it the most enduring form of cycling in North America with an ever growing following of fans.
