Give us your stories

by Wendy Pollitzer

Feb. 4, 2010

Hello Beaufort, Lady’s Island, St. Helena, Dataw, Fripp and Port Royal. May I have the pleasure of making your acquaintance? My name is Wendy Pollitzer, and I’ll be the new Lead Writer for The Island News.

I’m interested in all of your stories, very interested! It gives me great delight to meet new friends and learn about what’s happening in your neck of the woods. I’ve never met a stranger, and want to get to know as many of our readers as possible!

We are blessed to live in a community satiated with events with good purpose. News about the Arts, our schools, your sports teams and churches are all worthy for print in our paper. And we invite you to send them to us.  Email is preferred at or you may call me directly at (843) 263-3216.

Some of you may know me from Hunting Island. I was the Naturalist and gave talks to hundreds of children about the fragile barrier island ecosystem. In the same way that I shared my love of nature with our children, I will also share my love of the Lowcountry and all of its assets to the readers of The Island News.

I walk the Woods Memorial Bridge regularly.  To me, bridges symbolize connection.  We all live on one of a unique chain of Sea and Barrier Islands, each connected to the community at large.  So whether you’re on Lady’s Island or in Port Royal, you are part of The Island News!

If you see me on the bridge, please wave.  Or, if you see me around town, please introduce yourself.  If I already know you, expect a familiar smile!

At The Island News, “If it’s important to you, it’s important to us.”
